How do I find out whether a domain name is taken?
The lookup goes to the registry that runs the domain's extension. If it is registered you see the registrar and expiry date; if not, the name is usually available.
Frequently asked questions
What is RDAP?
RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol) is the protocol that presents domain registration data in a standard format and replaces the older WHOIS. Registries publish a domain's registrar, dates and status over RDAP.
Why can't I look up .com.tr?
TRABIS, Türkiye's registry for .tr, does not offer an RDAP service that a browser can query. For .tr names, use TRABIS's own lookup page.
Is the domain name I look up stored anywhere?
Not by Reachype: the lookup goes from your browser straight to the registry, and the name you look up is not sent to our analytics either. The registry's own service handles the lookups it receives under its own rules.
Can I get a domain name that is already registered?
A registered name stays registered for as long as its owner keeps renewing it. You can see the expiry date; if you want the name, you would need to contact its owner, or try a different extension or name.
