How many characters can an Instagram caption have?
A post caption can be up to 2,200 characters with up to 5 hashtags. Only the first lines show in the feed, so put the key sentence first.

How many hashtags can I use on Instagram?
According to the Instagram Help Centre, a post can use at most 5 hashtags; if you add more, the caption is not posted. The limit of 30 found in older documentation and guides no longer applies.
Why do my line breaks disappear?
When you copy text from another app, blank lines sometimes turn into a single space. Line breaks you type in this tool are kept; you can copy the text from here and paste it into Instagram.
Why do the first lines of a caption matter?
In the feed only the start of a caption shows, and people have to tap "more" to see the rest. Putting your offer, your question or the most important information in the first line makes it more likely to be read.
Do emoji count towards the character limit?
Yes. Emoji count as characters too, and because some are technically made of more than one part, they can bring you to the limit faster. The tool tells you separately when you get close to the limit.
